Auchentoshan Switch

This Monday saw the London final of the Auchentoshan Switch mixology competition the at Village Underground in Shoreditch. Twenty experienced mixologists battled it out for the coveted prize of a two week internship at New York’s premier cocktail bar Apotheke.

We organised the final and project managed the competition with the evening consisting of three rounds testing their creativity, knowledge and skill. The night had live music, DJs cocktail sampling and a lot of whisky! Congratulations to Martin Ball from Corridor, Manchester for winning the competition.

Echo Falls’ Californian Dreamin’

Earlier this year we developed a Californian-themed experiential campaign following Echo Falls’ listing in Dutch supermarket Albert Heijn. With our branded Airstream and the Echo Falls team we visited 25 flagship stores across the Netherlands, to encourage consumers to purchase bottles with promotional neck-tags, with which they could enter a competition to win one of four holidays to California or one of hundred of California beach hampers.

The team also took digital photos of customers with the Echo Falls Airstream which could be accessed on the Dutch Echo Falls Facebook page. The public were unanimous in their enthusiastic reactions to the team and the Airstream. The promotion effectively communicated our California message and raised awareness of the category and brand as well as successfully driving purchase.

Président Sampling with Brunomart

Last month we were in Wimbledon and Hammersmith with Président brand cheeses to provide an experiential campaign that would effectively showcase their cheese range.

We teamed up with Brunomart French markets, the perfect platform to reinforce Président’s authentic French heritage while allowing us to sample and sell. The market stall was staffed with an experienced French speaking cheese expert to explain the benefits of each cheese and provide simple serving suggestions along with recipes, vouchers and a free Président tote bag when you purchased 3 or more cheeses.

The campaign was a massive success, over-delivering on campaign objectives with over 2000 samples distributed and over 500 units of cheese sold each day. In addition, we were able to directly measure the popularity of the cheeses after sampling and as a result French Market activity will be extended and continued into 2012.

The Land Grab is Underway

Pete’s column is featured in today’s Guardian Media supplement [22/08/11].

A brand ‘land grab’ is underway. To the victors, the spoils are going to be great.

The ‘land grab’ in question is mobile commerce. The weapon is the smartphone. Already the figures are mind-boggling. Last year eBay Mobile racked up $2bn in mobile transactions. Whilst mobile advertising is growing exponentially, in the same period European brands spent $110m, in the U.S. the figure reached $790m. With a staggering 45 million mobile owners in the UK, smart thinking brands already have their eye on The Next Big Thing in mobile commerce.

NFC, or Near Field Communication, is already laying down the gauntlet to traditional media and brand promotional models. It will massively expand mobile freedom. With one quick tap of your phone you’ll be able to pay for goods at the till, consolidate your weekly budget, and view and redeem loyalty points. One quick tap of a poster or press ad will immediately open up local offers uniquely relevant to you. In short, it’s marvellously simple and wonderfully effortless.

For the man on the street it’s the easy life writ large. For the man in the boardroom, it’s an opportunity too big to be passed over. Now, when Return on Investment is in greater focus than ever, NFC allows for accurate, tangible measurement. They’ll have immediate, clear data on how much traffic an ad is generating, and, critically, how much of that traffic is being converted to sales.

Mobile commerce isn’t new: already 28% of consumers start the sales consideration process with the mobile. What is new is the mindset of brands. It’ll take a different kind of thinking to keep them front of mind, a greater flexibility and a deeper understanding of how consumers react with technology. All this, enhanced with mobile operators’ data, such as service usage, roaming history and device ownership, coupled with enablers like payments, location and couponing, creates a powerful medium where the customer is king. Now though, the kings are savvier than ever, and they expect their brands to be the same.

Just 20 years ago, phones were like bricks, the ultimate symbol of bling and conspicuous wealth. Fast forward to now and the landscape’s changed beyond recognition. But it’s creating enormous opportunities. For the smartest brands, the future’s most definitely bright.

Bowmore Whisky Tasting in Brighton

Last Thursday saw another fantastic Taste of Islay event, this time down in blustery Brighton at the absolutely gorgeous Hotel du Vin on Ship Street.

Our highlight was the Bowmore 12YO, sipped in the sunshine and sea-air and served along-side 3 types of salmon. Really felt like we were back on Islay, and thankfully the weather held out for us!

The MIDAS Touch With Sodexo

We are pleased to announce that Sodexo’s ‘be’ food service offer won a prestigious MIDAS award in the workplace catering solutions category at the 2011 ceremony.

We have been developing the visual identity of ‘be’ for the last two years which has seen the offer implemented in more than 220 sites and 18 countries. With work for the 2012 identity underway, we are keen to replicate the success of ‘be’ next year! We’ll let you know how we get on! In the meantime take a look at the first scene that has launched this year. Lose yourself in food ran from January to April and looked to capture our audience’s imagination.

Bowmore Whisky Tasting Events

We’ve been running a series of ‘Taste of Islay’ Bowmore Single Malt whisky tasting events across the Malmaison estate, in which guests are able to experience Islay, the home of Morrison Bowmore distillery.

Throughout the evenings, guests are taken on a journey, guided by Bowmore’s Master of Malts, and experience four different bottlings of the legendary Single Malt. Each whisky is served along side an exquisite dish served tapas style, created by the Chef using and enhancing the flavours of each expression.

Thanks to everyone who has come and we’re looking forward to seeing you at the next one.
